A single egg survived the end of the world 65 million years ago, a meteor struck the Earth and wiped out the age of giants. But in a valley hidden between volcanic cliffs, a rare magnetic field — generated by crystal deposits in the rock — deflected the debris and kept a fragment of life intact beneath the ash.
