Max and Lyokha are ordinary 18-year-old graduates who, one day, have the misfortune of finding themselves in an abandoned building, accompanied only by their own curiosity. There, they discover a door that shouldn't exist. Beyond it lies a cave, mountains of treasure, and the ghost of Ali Baba, who makes a very convincing plea for them not to touch anything. Max, naturally, touches something. His life instantly turns into a nightmare. A cursed ring begins to alter everything around him, ghosts demand the return of the stolen goods, and the ring itself somehow ends up with Varvara—a 17-year-old goth girl who is still attending kindergarten because she simply cannot pass the interview for first grade. But getting the ring back proves difficult. Varvara has no intention of handing it over without a fight and forces Max to undergo a series of trials. The further he progresses, the less his reality resembles a normal life. Ghostly bandits, fanged centipedes, mutated hamsters, bizarre rituals, a parallel reality, a business-savvy chicken, a philosophizing octopus, and other utterly inexplicable phenomena await Max on his journey home.
